CH2M (now owned by Jacobs) - Joint Venture Training
The Specs: CH2M, a global engineering and project management firm, needed to train their managers to decide when to pursue a joint venture (JV) agreement on a project and when other forms of agreements are appropriate. Joint venture agreements are time-consuming and costly to set up. They are generally CH2M’s last choice for partnering agreements. To prevent Joint Venture agreements where they are not needed, CH2M needed to thoroughly educate it’s employees on when to use JV’s and when NOT to use JV’s.
CH2M wanted to create a five-part series of eLearning modules to teach employees about how to create effective Joint Venture partnerships. The goal was to convert a series of videos of previous instructor-led training into a dynamic and engaging series of eLearning modules. The second module in the series needed to help employees apply their knowledge from the introductory module to assess a hypothetical situation, decide if it was appropriate for the joint venture, and choose a company to pursue as a partner.
The Solution: Created a highly-interactive, scenario-based, eLearning module using Articulate Storyline. The module presented a hypothetical business opportunity to pursue building a sustainable city in Australia from the ground up. The learner was allowed to explore several sources of information about the project, chose whether it was appropriate for a JV partnership, and eventually choose a company to pursue as a partner. There was an ongoing score as well as a matrix that kept track of a score for each potential JV partner company.
Client’s Reaction:
“I have had the pleasure of working with Joe Schultz over the past few years in his role as a content developer for our firm. Joe has developed some of the most innovative online courses in our catalogue. While other Developers are churning out “text and next” content, Joe is developing interactive role-based content that is engaging, informative and fun. As someone who reviews online training courses all the time, when a new approach comes along, I notice.”
